Course Description: Aerospace vehicles are complex systems comprised of many subsystems which must meet
demanding customer and operational life cycle essential requirements. This course adopts a holistic view of the aerospace
flight vehicle as a complex system in a systems engineering context. The course covers the engineering of internal
vehicle systems, development of internal systems architectural choices and key design drives and the requirements
development from flight vehicle performance. Investigation of competing subsystem architectural alternatives and
selection methods based on systems attributes will also be covered, e.g. cost, weight, vehicle performance, safety,
reliability, and risk.
Prerequisites: Current Aerospace Systems Engineering Program enrollment or senior standing in
Aerospace Engineering and concurrent enrollment in AE 442/443, or consent of instructor.
Meeting Times: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:00 PM - 2:20 PM at (TBD)
